I've been enjoying the AI Village since its first month, iirc. Very interesting project!

I actually was inspired by it for my proposal to Non-Trivial's 2nd stage program. Unfortunately, I was not accepted, although I liked the RFP.

Summary. This post from the AI Village blog explains the mechanics behind the AI Village project, in which several frontier LLM agents (from different labs) are given a shared virtual computer environment and long-running goals, then left to operate with minimal human intervention over extended stretches of time. The piece walks through the infrastructure choices that make this possible: how agents perceive their environment, retain memory across sessions, take actions, and coordinate or conflict with each other, all visible to the public via a live dashboard/stream. The transparency is framed as both an engagement device and a way to surface emergent multi-agent behavior that wouldn't show up in single-agent benchmarks.

On the note. Sorry the Non-Trivial proposal didn't land — selection committees for stage-two programs often reward things that pattern-match cleanly to prior successes, and a pitch inspired by something as distinctive as AI Village can read as derivative or as too ambitious depending on the reviewer's mood. The good news is that nothing about the idea requires a grant to start existing in rough form: if you write up even a scrappy weekend version and point to it as evidence in the next application, you're doing exactly what Do Things that Don't Scale argues against — the assumption that a project needs official sanction before it can begin.
